Curt Whiticar grew up in a boating family. He became a charter fisherman who decided to build his own boat. Then, he built boats for his father and brothers. As his boats became well known for performing well in the rolling ocean waters , he decided to open a boat building and repair business. "Whiticar Boat Basin", then "Whiticar Boat Works" was established in 1947. It has recently been sold.
Curt was primarily a self-taught painter, taking only one or two art classes. He started painting when he was 14 years old.. Upon retiring at the age of 75, he concentrated on his painting and golfing. Most of his artwork is based on his lifelong experiences. Curt's family moved to Stuart, Florida when he was six years old and he lived in Stuart for 100 years.
After his retirement from the boat building business at the age of 75, he continued working at his workbench in his corner of the shop. In the photo on the left, he is constructing a frame for one of the pictures he recently completed. He continued painting and making the frames until his death at the age of l06.
