Curt was primarily a self-taught painter, taking only one or two art classes. He started painting when he was 14 years old.. Upon retiring at the age of 75, he concentrated on his painting and golfing. Most of his artwork is based on his lifelong experiences. Curt's family moved to Stuart, Florida when he was six years old and he lived in Stuart for 100 years.
After his retirement from the boat building business at the age of 75, he continued working at his workbench in his corner of the shop.
